- Increasing the number, quality, and effectiveness of service-learning courses by supporting faculty initiatives, establishing partnerships with community-based organizations, and helping to train student volunteers
- Fostering student leadership in service-learning sites by creating a federal work-study and internship program that trains students as site coordinators
- Establishing a new mentoring program for college students to help at-risk high school students to investigate and apply for college or other post-secondary opportunities
- Expanding an after-school tutoring program for elementary school students to additional sites and age levels
- Working with student groups to establish long-term partnerships with community-based organizations serving the low-income population
- Enhancing campus capacity to support volunteer efforts and service-learning by acting as a point of contact for faculty, students, and community organizations
